Winged eyeliner

Tools You’ll Need

Liquid or Gel Eyeliner: Liquid eyeliner pens offer precision, while gel liners with a brush provide control. Choose a waterproof formula for long-lasting wear.

Angled Brush (for Gel): A fine, angled brush is ideal for gel eyeliner application.

Cotton Swabs and Makeup Remover: For quick fixes if you make a mistake.

Mirror: A magnifying mirror helps with precision.

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Prep Your Eyes
Start with clean, dry eyelids. Apply an eyeshadow primer to prevent smudging and create a smooth base. Lightly dust a neutral eyeshadow over the lid to set the primer.

Step 2: Map the Wing
Look straight into the mirror and imagine a line extending from your lower lash line toward the end of your eyebrow. Use a light pencil to mark a small dot where you want the wing to end. The angle should be about 45 degrees, but adjust based on your eye shape.

Step 3: Draw the Wing Outline
Connect the dot to the outer corner of your eye, creating a triangle’s top edge. Then, draw a line from the dot back toward the middle of your upper lash line, forming the triangle’s base. This outline will guide your liner application.

Step 4: Fill in the Wing
Using your liquid or gel eyeliner, fill in the triangle with short, steady strokes. Work slowly to avoid mistakes. If using a pen, hold it like a marker for better control. For gel, dip the brush lightly and wipe off excess product.

Step 5: Line the Lash Line
Draw a thin line along your upper lash line, starting from the inner corner and connecting to the wing. Keep the line thin near the inner corner and slightly thicker toward the outer edge for a balanced look.

Step 6: Clean Up
Use a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to sharpen the wing’s edges or correct any errors. A concealer brush can also help define the wing for a crisp finish.

Tips for Success

Practice on the back of your hand to get a feel for the eyeliner’s consistency. Rest your elbow on a flat surface to steady your hand. If one wing is uneven, make small adjustments rather than starting over. For extra drama, pair with mascara or false lashes.
